OBJECTIVE

To paint and photograph the natural world.

 

EDUCATION

 

From 2010 until 2018, Rouillier studied painting with Dr. James Conlon, Professor Emeritus, University of South Alabama Art Department. She also studied painting with Billie Sheldon at the John C. Campbell Folk School, and with Ginger Woechan, at Mobile City’s Lavretta Arts Center.

South Mobile Wildlife – A New Little Photobook in Full Color, by Susan Rouillier released in May, 2022, reached #27 in Nature Poetry on Amazon. It is available locally at Mobile Botanical Gardens, and The Dauphin Island Art Museum.

South Mobile Birds – Poems and Images from the Alabama Gulf Coast, by Susan Rouillier released in June, 2021, reached #1 in Nature Poetry on Amazon on June 29, 2021. It is available locally at Mobile Botanical Gardens, The Dauphin Island Art Museum, and Bellingrath Gardens. 

South Mobile – 1699-2018, by Susan Rouillier released in June, 2018, has been well received. It is currently for sale in the Maritime Museum of Mobile, the IMAX and Exploreum in Mobile, The Haunted Bookstore in Mobile, and Page and Palette Bookstore in Fairhope, Alabama. Because of this contribution, “Susan Rouillier Day” was declared by the Mobile City Council in June, 2018

Video Call Activities With Children: A Collection of Fun, Interactive, Educational Activities using Skype, FaceTime or Video Call, by Susan Rouillier, 2015. This book has activities for parents, grandparents, and others who are living away from family to use to engage their young relatives on Facetime and other Video calling apps.

PERSONAL

Susan Rouillier has been drawn to nature all her life. At the University of Melbourne she was a Commonwealth Scholar and did invertebrate research at Wilson’s Promontory in Australia.  She graduated with a Biology degree and went on to teach in Australia, Japan and the United States.  Rouillier set up a joint ecological project between Meiji Gankuen High School in Kitakyushu, Japan and The School of Math and Science in Mobile, Alabama, funded by the Fulbright Master Teacher Program. 

 

Today Rouillier lives on Mobile Bay where she paints and photographs the natural world of the vast and unique delta. She has traveled to Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador and Australia to take bird images.
